Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center
Broadway's supercalifragilistic, award-winning hit Mary Poppins comes to the Ahmanson Theatre for an exclusive limited engagement.
"It's a lavish stage version that's a wonder to behold, yet at its heart, Mary Poppins is a family drama. That this human and humane story shines through the dazzling special effects demonstrates the potency of its emotional impact."
– Mike Kuchwara, Associated Press
Based on P.L. Travers' cherished stories and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins features the Academy Award®-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The stage production has been created, in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh, by Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, who has written the book, and the Olivier Award-winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, who have composed new songs and additional music and lyrics. Olivier Award-winning Richard Eyre directs with co-direction and choreography by Tony® and Olivier Award winner Matthew Bourne.

Secrets in the Military. Conflicts on the Rez. A female U.S. Army Captain returns from Iraq to inform the Chief of a New Mexico Native American tribe that his son died under her command. Culture Clash, L.A.'s premiere Chicano performance group, returns with a world premiere play about America's constantly shifting political landscape - exploring loss, identity and the notion of occupied homelands. Richard Montoya employs the group's signature research and interview process to mold an intensely personal story. LA Fire Department
Holiday Toy Drive, "Spark of Love"
details
The Los Angeles Fire Department Holiday Toy Program for Needy Children will begin both collecting and accepting requests for toys on November 27, 2009.
Through your generosity, Spark of Love provides a new unwrapped toy or sporting good to a child who would otherwise go without a gift this holiday season. Spark of Love works in concert - not in competition - with other charitable programs to fulfill the dreams of needy Southern California children.
Recipients are identified in advance by established community and child service organizations. Families experiencing a sudden catastrophic loss are aided by Spark of Love. When possible, the local Fire Station crew
(occasionally accompanied by Santa Claus) makes a discreet and dignified special delivery to these deserving
children.

Macy's "Believe" Benefit
When your child writes to Santa, Macy's donates $1 to Make-A-Wish Foundation
details
750 W. 7th St., Los Angeles, CA 90017 • (213) 628-9311
Believers of all ages are invited to drop off letters – stamped and addressed to Santa At The North Pole – at any Macy’s store in the Santa Mail letterbox. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million, to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
The Believe campaign runs through December 24. For Believers who want to help make a difference, just look for the Believe Stations in every store that feature a Believe Meter, letter-writing station and an official R.H. Macy’s Santa Mail letterbox.
The Believe campaign is rooted in a letter to the editor written by 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon in 1897 asking if there is a Santa Claus. The New York Sun newsman Francis P. Church responded with a poignantly worded essay on the importance of believing, including the famous line “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist... ”
