Purple Patrol
What’s the Purple Patrol?
It’s a highly visible team of purple-shirted workers who provide 24-hour daily supplemental services to maintain cleanliness and safety within the district. The team also serves as customer service guides.
Safety
Purple Patrol officers provide security throughout the district. Officers provide crowd control and other duties at events and marches. They also patrol parking lots and structures to reduce automobile break-ins.
Cleanliness
A Purple Patrol team of men and women helps maintain the cleanliness of Downtown’s sidewalks.
Crew members are recruited from Chrysalis, a non-profit program
offering employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged and
formerly homeless individuals.
Ambassadors
The Purple Patrol customer service guides answer questions, provide directions and staff informational kiosks. Ambassadors are now armed with a new tool – hand held computers and printers that provide printed walking and driving directions to over 600 locations within the district, as well as popular tourist destinations in Southern California.
BID A.C.T.I.O.N.
BID A.C.T.I.O.N. is a full-service community outreach program that offers assistance and resources to the homeless within the Downtown district. Employees establish contacts with healthcare and social services providers that are then matched to the needs of the homeless population.
