The Downtown Center Business Improvement District's (DCBID's) Safe & Clean team, called the "Purple Patrol", is committed to assisting those who work, live, and play in the Downtown Center and Historic Downtown. Our trained staff can attend to your safety concerns, and also provides maintenance services to keep the district clean.

We are also proud of our BID ACTION team, the only special homeless outreach team staffed and managed by any Business Improvement District in Downtown.

What is the Purple Patrol?

The Purple Patrol is our highly visible team of purple-shirted safety officers and maintenance staff who provide daily, 24-hour supplemental services to maintain safety and cleanliness within the district. The Purple Patrol staff is highly trained to ensure that your visit to the Downtown area is memorable and safe. Feel free to stop any of our staff members if you should need assistance or directions.

If you're looking for an extra degree of information for visitors, you'll also want to watch for our Downtown Guides, our roaming concierges who are trained to be of assistance when it comes to anything you want to know about Downtown. They can share Downtown maps and other useful collateral.

Safety

Throughout the district, you will see our "District Safety" officers. These officers are professionally supplied through Universal Protection Services, and are well-trained in topics ranging from customer service to drug abuse recognition (DAR). Additionally, the DCBID is the first BID to start it's own BID Academy, in which our safety staff attends classes above and beyond state requirements. In total, our safety staff completes over 300 hours of training!

Our safety staff serves as additional eyes and ears for the Los Angeles Police Department, maintaining a professional relationship with all local law enforcement and city entities. They also provide safety services during various significant events throughout all of Downtown, including the Los Angeles Marathon, Fiesta Broadway, Giant Village, various demonstrations, and more.

Cleanliness

This team of men and women on our Purple Patrol helps maintain the cleanliness of Downtown's sidewalks. Crew members are recruited from Chrysalis, a non-profit program offering employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged and formerly homeless individuals.

A visitor's guide to safety

Safety is everyone's concern. Help take responsibility for your own safety by following these common sense tips.

• Pay attention, stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.
• Carry your purse in front, close to your body, and try not to carry more than you can handle.
• Never flash your cash or credit cards.
• Remove your convention badges outside the meeting site.
• Walk in well-traveled and well-lit places, especially at night.
• Always lock your car and store all items out of sight, including spare change and cell phones.
• Report suspicious behavior to the Purple Patrol or LAPD.
