Chamber Music in Historic Sites
Calefax Reed Quintet - 2pm & 4pm The “unadulterated virtuosity” (The New York Times) of the Calefax Reed Quintet creates an exciting synergy with one of L.A.’s most iconic structures. The Bradbury Building, an almost futuristic, intricate fantasy of open cage elevators and ornamental cast iron is itself unforgettable; as a backdrop for Calefax’s wide-ranging program of expressive 15th century polyphony, mythological-inspired music by Debussy (Syrinx) and Britten (Pan), the mysticism of Arvo Pärt (Summa and Arbos), and the intricate counterpoint of Bach (Goldberg Variations excerpts), the meeting of site and sound will be truly extraordinary!
